December 2025 Here is a quick overview of the key details: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has
been entrusted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) with the task of
conducting UGC-NET, which is a Test to determine the eligibility of Indian
nationals for ‘Assistant Professor’ as well as ‘Junior Research Fellowship and
Assistant Professor’ in Indian Universities and Colleges.The UGC-NET is being
conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in Computer Based Test (CBT)
mode w.e.f. December 2018 onwards.
Awarding of Junior Research
Fellowship (JRF) and/ or Eligibility for Assistant Professorship depends on the
aggregate performance of the candidate in Paper-I and Paper-II of UGC-NET. The
candidates qualifying only for Assistant Professorship are not eligible to be
considered for the award of JRF. Candidates who qualify the eligibility test
for Assistant Professorship are governed by the rules and regulations of the
concerned Universities/Colleges/State Governments, as the case may be for
recruitment of Assistant Professor.

Eligibility Criteria
Before applying, ensure you meet the
following criteria:
- Nationality: Must be an Indian
citizen.
- Educational Qualification:
- A Master's degree (M.Sc.) or equivalent in a relevant science subject
with at least 55% marks for General/EWS/OBC candidates, and at least 50% marks
for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
- Candidates in the final year of their Master's degree can also apply
under the "Result Awaited (RA)" category.
- Degrees like B.Tech/B.E./B.Pharma/MBBS/BS are also eligible.
- Age Limit:
- For JRF: Must not be more than 30 years as of December 2025. Age
relaxation of up to 5 years is available for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Female/Third gender
candidates.
- For Assistant Professor/Lecturership: There is no upper age limit.
How to Apply
You can apply for CSIR UGC NET
December 2025 by following these steps on the official website,

1. New Registration: Click on
"New Registration" and provide basic details like your name, date of
birth, and contact information to generate an application number.
2. Fill Application Form: Log in and
complete the form with academic details, select your subject, and choose up to
four exam city preferences.
3. Upload Documents: Upload scanned
copies of your recent photograph, signature, and category certificate (if
applicable) in the specified format.
4. Pay Fee: Pay the application fee
online via credit/debit card, net banking, or UPI.
5. Print Confirmation: After
successful payment, download and print the confirmation page for your records.
Exam Pattern and Subjects
The CSIR UGC NET is a single paper of
3 hours (180 minutes) duration, conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.
The question paper is divided into three parts:

Important Reminders
- Correction Window: If you need to
correct any details in your application, a window will be open from October 27
to October 29, 2025.
- Single Application: You can submit
only one application for one subject. Multiple applications will be cancelled.
